7 Easy Hairstyles to Save a Bad Hair Day

Bad hair days. We’ve all been there (and will certainly be there again). There are days when your hair just won’t cooperate, you don’t have time to deal with it, or humidity and sweat simply get in the way. Those are the days when an easy hairstyle is your saving grace. Best of all, these simple hairstyles will save a bad hair day, no matter your hair type, texture or length. The short of it is this: Get your hair tied up to teach it a lesson. But this doesn’t mean you’re sacrificing your personal style! In fact, any of these hairstyles can be tweaked for a look that’s all your own. Keep reading for some cute and functional hairstyles to save a bad hair day.

The Undone Bun

Getting your hair totally out of your face is sometimes all you want to accomplish when it’s hot and your hair is already a bit of a mess. The undone bun is about as simple as it gets. This style obviously works much better with longer hair, but that doesn’t mean you can’t do a baby bun with shorter hair. Whether your hair is dirty or clean, just use a hair tie to sweep it out of your face and wrap it in a loose bun. You could also use a scrunchie or even dress it up with a scarf. Your wispy hairs may fall out on their own but you can also make yourself look artfully disheveled by pulling out a few strands.

The Low Ponytail

A low ponytail can be a little less stressful on your strands. If you wear it low and loose, you’re not pulling on your roots quite so much, which means less damage. This is also a quick way to tie your hair back to get it out of your face. If you want to purposefully do this hairstyle (rather than do it in a rush, in a pinch), spritz your strands with a bit of No Remorse Heat Protection & Taming Spray to tamp down any frizz you might get, especially if it’s a warm or humid day.

The Mop-Top Ponytail

Curly-haired friends, this one is for you. If your curls are just not in the mood to be tamed, tie them up and be done! But even if you’re writing them off for the day, you still want to show them a little bit of love. After your curly shampoo and your curly conditioner, use a bit of License to Curl: Curl Revival Boost Spray to make sure your curls have everything they need to stay vibrant, hydrated and defined even while up in a ponytail.

The Lazy Updo

What’s great about a lazy updo is that it’s whatever you want it to be. Have a pen nearby? Twist your hair up and stick it in to hold it in place. A few butterfly clips lying around from your kids or grandkids? Those work just as well, too. Sometimes just getting your hair out of the way is the solution you need. Plus, this allows for some creativity when you’re pulling your hair back! You might just find a new style that you like for a day when you’re not even having a bad hair day!

The Half-Up, Half-Down Do

The half-up, half-down look is a bit more refined than some of the other easy hairstyles for a bad hair day. This one works if your hair isn’t totally a wreck and you want to still leave some of it hanging free. This is especially a good look if you have shorter hair, because there’s less of it to wrangle into place. You could clip your hair back with any number of claw clips for an elevated look, too. But a hair tie works fine when you need to just deal with it and be done. A little bit of hair thickener for lift and some spray to hold it all in place will finish your look.

The Loose Side Braid

Don’t be put off by this style if you have short hair or think you can’t braid. This style is versatile! If you have long hair and you’re an expert braider, you know what to do here. But if you’re not the best at braiding, you can also twist your hair to keep it contained. If you have short hair, you can still create a variation on this look using the front of your hair around your face. This will keep it out of your eyes, and then you can tie a scarf around it to conceal it even further. We all have those days when we want to just hide our hair completely, and that’s OK!

This style can also be done before you even know you’re having a bad hair day. If you jump out of the shower on a morning that you’re short on time, gently towel it dry, give your scalp some love with a fortifying serum, and then braid it off to the side for the day.

Braided Pigtails

You don’t have to leave pigtails behind when you become an adult. This hairstyle is still totally practical and just really cute, especially on your aging hair! Simply tie your hair into pigtails to keep it contained and out of your face for the day. You can even smooth a dab of hair butter onto your ends to treat them to a little restorative deep conditioning while you go about your day. Bonus: If you braid your hair while it’s damp, once you unravel it, it’ll have a nice wave to it.
